PERMASTORE® Tanks used for Green Energy - Biogas from Food Waste Facility

GWE Biogas will install a total of 5 PERMASTORE® Glass-Fused-to-Steel tanks, as part of their 50,000 tonne renewable energy from food waste facility at Sandhill near Driffield, North Yorkshire. Two of the PERMASTORE® tanks are Anaerobic Digesters used to produce the Biogas. One is a hydrolysis tank, used in the first stage of the Biogas digestion process. Two further tanks storing waste material, which is subsequently used for fertiliser, complete the facility. One of these tanks incorporates a Biogas dome roof to store the gas prior to it being used for electrical power generation. The PERMASTORE® tanks are an integral part of the Biogas plant. The selection of tank supplier followed careful technical and commercial consideration. Permastore was chosen for their proven high quality, excellent durability and high technical specifications. Unlike other tank products the unique PERMASTORE® Glass-Fused-to-Steel product gives a longer anticipated asset life for the biogas plant and makes clear sense as a long term return on capital investment. The unique modular design of the tanks allowed rapid erection, reducing on site construction time and costs. The PERMASTORE® system also proved beneficial in reducing delivery logistics, construction traffic and the need for working at height. All of which contributed to a significant reduction in site health and safety risks, this being of particular benefit in a remote rural location. The first stage of construction of this Green Energy facility is close to completion and when commissioned will be one of the Country’s leading facilities for the cost effective and environmentally friendly disposal of food waste and the production of renewable energy. The second stage of construction will see the second 3,000m3 PERMASTORE® digester tank installed taking the plant to its total treatment capacity of 50,000 tonnes per annum.
