Permastore, in conjunction with American Distributor, United Tank Systems LLC were part of a team that supplied and installed an award winning biogas plant at Michigan State University in 2013.
The project was recently awarded Institutional Biogas Project of the Year by the American Biogas Council with the larger of the two anaerobic digestion tanks having a capacity of 8447m3 (2,231,461 USG).
Two Glass-Fused-to-Steel anaerobic digester tanks were supplied to Michigan State University. These PERMASTORE® Tanks are an integral part of a process that produces enough electricity to power up to ten university campus facilities yet also provides students with an excellent learning resource, research project opportunity and possibilities for community outreach.
An additional positive result of this project is liquid fertiliser which is utilised by local farmers on nearby agricultural land. Without doubt, with a Design Life of 30 years and an expected service life of 50 years, these PERMASTORE® digesters will be powering the University with renewable energy for many generations of students to come.
These PERMASTORE® structures were not just part of an award winning project; they also form the largest operating anaerobic digesters on a University campus in the United States, with Michigan State University hoping to generate approximately 3,000 MWh/yr of energy.
