New Permastore Tank Underpins Water Security for Citizens in Belcourt, North Dakota
In mid-2025, an important enhancement to rural water distribution was achieved in Belcourt, North Dakota, with the successful erection of a 200,000 US gallon glass-fused-to-steel tank for the All Seasons Water Users District (ASWUD). Designed and manufactured by Permastore and expertly erected by Northern Steel Tanks Inc., this project is a key component in water storage capacity and supply reliability for the region.
The tank was constructed as part of ASWUD’s Bottineau County Expansion Project, aimed at improving water service delivery and meeting growing demand across rural communities. With contract timelines and environmental conditions to consider, the decision to use a Permastore Glass-Fused-to-Steel (GFtS) tank was strategic. The modular bolted design enabled rapid on-site assembly, ideal for a region with limited construction seasons, maintaining project momentum and service continuity.
Permastore’s GFtS technology combines the structural strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of glass, delivering a long-lasting, low-maintenance solution ideal for potable water storage. The tank’s interior and exterior surfaces are protected by fusing a scientifically developed multi-layer glass cote (TRIFUSION®) to the tank’s modular steel panels (in a factory-controlled environment). The result is a high-performance, minimal maintenance coating that will endure for decades – across a harsh range of environmental extremes.
Northern Steel Tanks brought deep expertise and precision to the project, managing the full civils and erection process backed by their many years of experience. Their role was pivotal in transforming Permastore’s engineering into a fully operational asset for ASWUD.
This project not only enhances water security for thousands of residents in North Dakota but also highlights the power of collaboration between time-served engineering expertise and construction excellence.
