The Municipality of Grecia has taken a major step toward long-term water security with the completion of two Glass-Fused-to-Steel water storage tanks, each with a capacity of 1,500 m³ – together holding an impressive 3 million litres. This infrastructure now safeguards reliable water access for approximately 80,000 residents in the canton.
Located in Costa Rica’s Central Valley, Grecia is renowned for its coffee heritage, pleasant climate, and progressive community planning. With rapid residential growth underway, the new tanks are a timely investment, ensuring safe and sustainable water supply for the next 30 to 50 years.
The system pumps water from a natural local spring to the Permastore tanks being distributed under gravity throughout the town. In the event of a power outage the town continues to be served for some considerable time with the two tanks acting as a supply buffer– providing an essential resilience feature for the growing urban population.
Commissioned by the municipality and constructed in two phases these near identical Permastore tanks were specified and installed by Cubic – local experts in modular storage solutions.
The project exemplifies how smart engineering, and strategic planning can empower communities with dependable water resources for decades to come.
