Carbon Footprint Benchmark

The carbon emissions of businesses and their green credentials are becoming more and more important environmental impact factors when customers make their buying decisions.

Businesses are critical in the fight against climate change as they are the source of most of the world’s emissions. The targets set by governments will never be achieved if businesses don’t move towards them. That is why businesses need to play their part1.

To this end Permastore has embarked on its journey towards becoming carbon neutral by mapping the carbon emissions it generates from its manufacturing activity. This has been achieved with the support of its carbon management solutions partner, who assisted the Company in the generation of a full carbon inventory and emissions map for its business activities.

The resulting Carbon Footprint Report that has been created has become the Company’s benchmark. From the baseline that has been set the Company can make future meaningful, realistic, and measured reductions in the amount of carbon it emits through the decarbonisation of its processes.

Taking action towards reducing carbon emissions will enable Permastore, with the support of its ecosystem of supply partners, to progress the development of effective mechanisms that tackle climate change both upstream and downstream within the bolted tank industry.

Permastore’s benchmark Carbon Footprint for 2022/23 has been calculated in line with the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Protocol emission Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3, and has been audited and verified in accordance with the criteria set out by the British Standards Institute PAS2060:2014. The results show that the amount of carbon produced by Permastore Limited in its operational activities during FY 2022/23 totalled 5,995 tCO2e.

Determining the Company’s benchmark footprint was only a starting point, the Company has since formulated a Carbon Reduction Plan. At the same time, it has formed a cross functional team that is now working on a number of companywide carbon reduction projects and the delivery of the Company’s 2023/24 Emissions Report.

Permastore continues to work on finalising its operational carbon footprint and it is reviewing embedded carbon within supply chain materials to enable it in the future to be able to calculate the carbon footprint of a typical Permastore tank. Further updates will be provided, and information shared with its Partners as these projects progress and conclude.
